Plant-based Golden Spiced Milk Recipe

I really enjoy a cup of plant based hot chocolate however I can only drink it before midday if I want to have a restful nights sleep. Chocolate, coffee or anything containing caffeine will play havoc on a good nights rest. When I fancy something like a hot chocolate in the evening, especially in the midst of winter I opt for Golden milk.

If you have never tried golden milk, then you my friend, have been missing out! Golden milk is a traditional Indian drink that has its roots in Ayurveda. Some of the potential benefits of golden milk include…

  • Reducing in inflammation

  • Improving mood

  • Supporting brain function and improving memory

  • Lowering blood sugar levels

  • Boosting the immune system

  • Purifies the blood

  • Aids weight loss

  • Clears the skin

  • Improves the digestion system

  • Gives relief from coughs and colds

This recipe uses five ingredients; plant-based milk, tumeric, ginger root, nutmeg and green cardamom.

Tumeric is amazing, more than 50 clinical trials have tested tumeric against a variety of diseases and a variety of cancers. It’s been shown to make colon polyps disappear, speed recovery after surgery and treat rheumatoid arthritis better than the leading drug. Tumeric also appears to be effective in treating osteoarthritis and other inflammatory conditions such as lupus and inflammatory bowel disease. Ginger root - there is a plethora of benefits from having ginger. A double-blind, randomised controlled clinical trial compared the efficiency of ginger for the treatment of migraines to one of the top selling migraine medications in the world and found that a pinch of ginger powder worked just as well as the drug, and it cost less than a penny! Ginger can also help with menstrual cramps, osteoarthritis, stopped nausea and vomiting experienced by patients who had undergone chemotherapy, reduces radiation damage and helped with morning sickness.

Green Cardamom seeds - A recent study found that cardamom seeds could help improve oral health due to their anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. Cardamom has been traditionally used in Ayurveda and Chinese medicine for millennia. Most impressive of all, cardamom even contains natural compounds with antioxidant properties that may prove to be helpful in preventing many chronic diseases.

Nutmeg - Nutmeg originated from the Spice Islands in eastern Indonesia. Nutmeg is found to have many health benefits, including its ability to relieve pain, soothe indigestion, strengthen cognitive function, detoxify the body & boost skin health. Nutmeg can also

improve blood circulation.

Nutmeg should be used in small amounts in cooking as it has the ability to cause a drug-like haze and even hallucinations when consumed in very large amounts. Large quantities (2 or more tablespoons) of nutmeg can also cause nausea, dizziness and heart palpitations so use it sparingly. Nutmeg in large amounts was used to end unwanted pregnancies, therefore it is advised that pregnant women should go easy on nutmeg or avoid it altogether.

I urge you to do your own research, it truly is amazing how beneficial & powerful our natural world is.
